Digital Twin — Pin Sections on Tablet - User Guide

Written by Trevor Shaffer

Overview

Asset sections are subdivisions of an asset — for example, a pump may have sections like Drive End and Non-Drive End, each containing their own components and tasks. On tablet, sections now appear in the asset hierarchy on the Digital Twin and can be pinned directly to the 3D model, giving technicians a clear spatial reference for each section.

Section pins appear as blue folder icons on the Digital Twin model. This feature is available on tablet only.

Pinning a Section to the Digital Twin

  1. Open the app on your tablet and navigate to a work order.

  2. Open the Digital Twin view. The split layout loads automatically.

  3. In the left sidebar, navigate to an asset that has sections.

  4. The sections appear below the asset with a folder icon.

  5. Tap the pin button next to a section to enter pinning mode.

  6. Tap a location on the 3D model to place the section pin.

  7. The section now appears as a blue folder-icon pin on the model.

Navigating via Section Pins

  1. Tap a blue folder-icon pin on the Digital Twin model.

  2. The hierarchy navigates to that section and its components appear.

Use Cases

Organized spatial navigation — A technician can pin each section of a large asset to the 3D model and tap the blue pins to jump directly to that section's tasks, without scrolling through a long component list.

Section-level overview — With sections pinned on the Digital Twin, a supervisor can see the physical layout of a machine's sections and quickly navigate to areas with incomplete tasks.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Sections are not appearing in the hierarchy.

Solution:

  1. Confirm the asset has sections configured. Sections are set up in asset configuration on the web.

  2. Confirm you are on a tablet device — this feature is tablet only.

Issue: The pin button is not responding.

Solution:

  1. Ensure no other item is already in pinning mode — only one item can be placed at a time.

  2. Confirm a 3D model is loaded. A model must be selected before pins can be placed.

Issue: The split layout is not appearing — I only see a single-panel view.

Solution:

  1. Confirm you are on a tablet device. This layout is tablet only and does not apply to phones.

  2. Confirm you are in the Digital Twin view within a work order.

Summary

Asset sections now appear in the Digital Twin hierarchy on tablet and can be pinned to the 3D model as blue folder-icon pins. Sections are structural subdivisions within an asset (distinct from asset groups), each containing their own components and tasks. On tablet, the split layout keeps the hierarchy visible alongside the 3D model, making it easy to navigate between sections and complete tasks. This feature is available on tablet only.
