Asset Groups — Auto-Fill When Adding an Asset from Within a Group (Mobile) - User Guide

Adding a new asset while browsing inside an Asset Group now pre-fills the Asset Group field with the group you're in, saving a step when bulk-adding assets.

Written by Trevor Shaffer

Overview

When you add a new asset while browsing inside an Asset Group, the new asset's Asset Group field now pre-fills with the group you're currently in — instead of starting blank. You can still change it before saving.

This is available on both Android and iOS.

How It Works

  1. Navigate into an Asset Group in the hierarchy view

  2. Tap Create Asset (shown while at the group's level) or Add Asset (from within a group, which opens an asset picker with a create option)

  3. The new-asset form opens with Asset Group already set to the group you were browsing

  4. Fill in the rest of the asset's details and save — or tap the Asset Group field first to pick a different group if needed

NOTE: The field is pre-filled but not locked — you can still tap it and select a different group before saving.

When the Field Stays Blank

  • Creating an asset from the root of the Asset Groups hierarchy (not inside any group) leaves the Asset Group field blank, as before

  • Creating an asset from the main Assets list (the flat, non-hierarchy view) does not pre-fill a group, even if you navigated there from a specific group — this view doesn't carry group context into the new-asset form

Use Cases

Bulk-adding assets to a group: While setting up a new work area, a technician navigates into its Asset Group and adds several new assets in a row — each one already assigned to the right group without re-selecting it every time.

Correcting the group before saving: A user starts creating an asset from inside "Building A," but realizes it actually belongs in "Building B." Since the field is editable, they just tap Asset Group and pick the correct one before saving.

Notes

  • This applies to both ways of adding an asset from within a group — the direct "Create Asset" button and the "Add Asset" picker's create option

  • Behavior is identical on Android and iOS

Summary

Adding an asset from within an Asset Group now pre-fills that group on the new-asset form, saving a step when adding assets in bulk. The field stays editable, so you can change it before saving. Creating from the hierarchy root or from the flat Assets list still leaves the Asset Group field blank, since neither carries a specific group context.
