Overview
When building your digital twin, add Component Templates and Asset Templates directly from the pinning hierarchy without leaving the 3D model view. Use pre-built templates to quickly set up an asset's components and maintenance tasks in place — so you can go from a newly pinned asset to a fully configured maintenance program without switching screens.
Accessing Templates While Pinning
Open the Digital Twin for the location you are pinning
Navigate to the asset in the Pinning Hierarchy panel
Tap the asset to select it
Tap the Add button that appears in the side bar
A menu appears with the following options:
Add Component — create a single new component manually
Add Component Templates — bulk-add components from pre-built templates
Link Asset to Template — connect the asset to an Asset Template for ongoing sync
Apply Asset Template — copy an Asset Template's content to the asset one time
How to Add Component Templates
Component Templates let you quickly create multiple components at once, each pre-loaded with the task templates, frequencies, and defaults defined for that component type.
From the + menu on a selected asset, tap Add Component Templates
The Component Templates screen displays all available component types
Browse or use Search to find the component types you need
Tap the + or use the quantity stepper next to each template to set how many of that component type to create
Tap Add to create all selected components in one action
The components are created under the asset with all associated task templates, products, and defaults applied
Note: Favorites are sorted to the top of the list. Tap the star icon next to any template to mark it as a favorite for faster access next time.
How to Apply an Asset Template
Applying an Asset Template copies the template's full component structure and task configuration to the asset in a single action.
From the + menu on a selected asset, tap Apply Asset Template
Browse or search for the template you want to apply
If the asset already has components or tasks, you will be prompted to choose whether to Keep Existing content or Delete and Replace it
The template content is copied to the asset — components, tasks, products, and all defaults
Note: Applying a template is a one-time copy. The asset and the template are not linked after applying — future changes to the template will not automatically update the asset.
How to Link an Asset to a Template
Linking creates an ongoing connection between the asset and an Asset Template so the asset stays in sync as the template evolves.
From the + menu on a selected asset, tap Link Asset to Template
Browse or search for the template you want to link
If the asset already has existing content, you will be prompted to keep or replace it
The asset is now linked — future updates published to the template will be reflected on the asset
Note: Linked assets maintain a dynamic relationship with the template. Use this option when you want the asset to stay current as your maintenance standards evolve.
Use Cases
This feature is built for users who are actively building out a digital twin — charting a facility by pinning assets in the 3D model view — and need to configure an asset's components or maintenance program without switching screens.
A common scenario: you're working through the pinning hierarchy, you select an asset, and realize it's missing a coupling, gearbox, or other component. Instead of navigating away to the asset detail screen, you can add a component template, apply an asset template, or link the asset to a template directly from the pinning view. This keeps you in context as you build, so you can go from a newly pinned asset to a fully configured maintenance program in one session.
Best Practices
Use Component Templates for Bulk Builds: When configuring a new asset with many similar components (e.g., multiple motors or pumps of the same type), Component Templates let you set quantities and create them all at once instead of one at a time.
Favorite Your Most-Used Templates: Star the templates your team uses most often — they sort to the top, saving time when pinning multiple assets.
Link When Standards May Change: If your maintenance program for a class of assets might be updated, link rather than apply so all assets in that class update automatically.
Apply When Assets Need Custom Configuration: Use Apply when the asset needs individual adjustments after initial setup — a linked asset will overwrite local changes when the template updates.
Troubleshooting
Issue: No Component Templates appear in the list
Solution: Component Templates must be created by an administrator before they appear here.
Component Templates must be created by an administrator before they appear here
Contact your administrator to confirm templates have been set up for your organization
Issue: Asset Template does not appear in the picker
Solution: Verify the template exists and is active, and try using the Search field to locate it.

Try using the Search field — templates with similar names can be easy to miss when scrolling
Summary
Adding Component Templates and Asset Templates while pinning removes the need to switch contexts when configuring a new asset — everything you need to build a complete maintenance program is accessible directly from the 3D model view. Whether you're bulk-adding components, applying a standard configuration, or linking an asset for ongoing sync, templates make it faster and more consistent to set up assets in the field.
