Overview
You can now create a new Asset Group directly from the Assets page, without leaving to go to the standalone Asset Hierarchy page. The same option also lets you create a group under any existing parent, or move the new group to the root level — all from one menu.
Accessing Create Asset Group
The Create Asset Group option lives in the existing options menu on the Assets page sidebar — the same menu used for CSV export and other list options.
From the Lubrication Management sidebar, go to Asset Management > Assets
In the sidebar, click the ⋮ (more options) icon at the top of the asset list
Select Create Asset Group
How to Create a Group at the Root Level
Open Create Asset Group from the ⋮ menu on the bare Assets page (not inside a specific group)
In the Add Group modal, the Parent group field is empty, meaning the new group will be created at the root level
Enter a Group Name (required)
Optionally enter a Code
Click Create
The page redirects to the new group's page once it's created.
How to Create a Group Under a Specific Parent (or Move It to Root)
If you're viewing a specific asset group when you open Create Asset Group, the Parent group field is pre-filled with that group.
While viewing an asset group, click the ⋮ icon and select Create Asset Group
The Parent group field shows the group you're currently viewing
To create the new group under a different parent, search for and select another group in the Parent group field
To create the new group at the root level instead, clear the Parent group field
Enter a Group Name, optionally a Code, then click Create
NOTE: Parent group is a searchable dropdown. If your search doesn't match any existing group, the field now shows a proper "no results" message instead of a raw placeholder.
Validation
Group Name is required — leaving it blank shows "Please enter name."
There is currently no check for duplicate group names — two groups with the same name can both be created.
Use Cases / Examples
Use Case 1: Setting up a new top-level division
A facility admin needs a new root-level group ("Building C") to organize assets that don't fit under any existing group. From the Assets page, they open the ⋮ menu, select Create Asset Group, leave Parent group empty, and create it — no trip to the Asset Hierarchy page required.
Use Case 2: Adding a subgroup while reviewing assets
While reviewing assets inside "Building A > Floor 2," a supervisor realizes they need a new group for a specific line. They open Create Asset Group from within that group — the parent field is already set to "Floor 2" — and create the new subgroup in place.
Use Case 3: Correcting the parent while creating a group
A user starts creating a group from inside "Floor 2," but realizes the new group actually belongs at the root level. Instead of canceling and starting over from the Assets page, they clear the Parent group field before clicking Create.
Best Practices
Double-check the Parent group field before creating: Since it's pre-filled based on where you opened the modal from, confirm it shows the parent (or blank, for root) you actually want before clicking Create.
Use distinct group names: Since there's no duplicate-name check, use clearly distinct names to avoid confusing similarly-named groups later.
Create from within the target parent group when possible: Opening Create Asset Group while viewing the intended parent pre-fills that field, saving you a search step.
Troubleshooting
Issue: I don't see a dedicated "Create Group" button on the Assets page
Solution:
This option lives inside the ⋮ (more options) menu in the sidebar, not as its own button
Click the ⋮ icon and select Create Asset Group from the dropdown
Issue: The Parent group field shows a group I don't want
Solution:
The field is pre-filled based on which group you were viewing when you opened the modal
Search for and select a different group, or clear the field to create the group at the root level instead
Issue: Searching the Parent group field shows no matches
Solution:
This means no existing group matches your search text
Adjust your search, or clear the field to leave the group at the root level
Summary
The Create Asset Group option, available from the ⋮ menu on the Assets page, lets you create a new asset group at the root level or under any existing parent — without navigating to the standalone Asset Hierarchy page. The Parent group field is editable and searchable: leave it blank for a root-level group, or select any group to nest the new one underneath it. After creating a group, you're taken directly to its page.
