Form Image Sizing (Mobile) - User Guide

Written by Trevor Shaffer

Overview

Forms can include reference images that display directly in the form as technicians fill it out. These images now appear at a configured size — small, medium, or large — so photos display at the right scale for the task at hand. Whether it's a close-up detail that needs to be clearly visible or a full equipment view for orientation, the image displays at the size that makes the most sense for the content.

Accessing Forms

From a route task:

  1. Tap the Routes tab in the bottom navigation bar.

  2. Tap a route to open it.

  3. Tap a task that has a form attached.

  4. Tap the form to open it.

From the Forms tool:

  1. Tap the Forms tab in the bottom navigation bar.

  2. Browse or search for the form you want to open.

  3. Tap the form to open it.

Reference images appear inline as you scroll through the form.

How Image Sizing Works

The size is set per image section when the form is built. Different images in the same form can have different sizes — a small thumbnail for a reference label and a large image for a full equipment view, for example.

NOTE: These are reference images displayed to the technician. They are not photos captured during the form submission. To capture a photo as part of a form response, the form uses a separate File/Photo question type.

How to View an Image Full-Screen

  1. While filling out a form, locate the image section.

  2. Tap the image.

  3. The image opens in a full-screen QuickLook view.

  4. Swipe down or tap Done to return to the form.

Use Cases

Component identification: A safety inspection form includes a small color-coded reference image showing acceptable vs. unacceptable surface conditions next to each inspection question. Set to Small, it gives technicians a quick visual benchmark without taking up space they need to enter their response.

Procedure reference: A PM form displays a step-by-step diagram showing how to access a component. The image is set to Large so technicians can clearly see each step without needing to zoom in.

Safety callout: A form includes a reference image showing the correct lockout/tagout procedure for the equipment. The image is set to Large so the safety-critical information is immediately visible.

Quick confirmation: A route form shows a reference photo of what a correctly lubricated component should look like. Set to Medium, it's large enough to compare against the actual equipment without dominating the form.

Best Practices

  1. Match Size to Detail Level: Use Small for simple reference items, Medium for standard photos, and Large for images that contain text, diagrams, or fine details that must be legible.

  2. Use Large Sparingly: Large images take up significant vertical space in a form. Reserve them for images where the detail genuinely requires it.

  3. Tap to Inspect: Remind technicians that any image can be tapped to open full-screen — especially if a Small or Medium image contains important fine details.

  4. Keep Reference Images Current: Reference photos are only helpful if they match what technicians see in the field. Review and update images when equipment or procedures change.

Troubleshooting

Issue: An image in a form appears too small to see clearly.

Solution:

  1. Tap the image to open it in full-screen QuickLook view — this works regardless of the configured size.

  2. If the image consistently needs to be larger, contact your administrator or the person who manages forms and ask them to increase the image size setting for that question.

Issue: An image is not appearing in the form at all.

Solution:

  1. Check your network connection and sync status. Reference images are downloaded with the form when you're online.

  2. If images for a route were recently added, perform a sync from the Settings screen and reopen the form.

  3. If the image still doesn't appear, contact your administrator — the image may not have been uploaded correctly in the Form Builder.

Summary

Form image sizing lets administrators display reference photos at the scale that works best for each step in a form. Technicians see images at small, medium, or large sizes depending on how much detail is needed — and can always tap any image to view it full-screen. Setting the right size for each image keeps forms clear and efficient without unnecessary scrolling or zooming.
