Overview

Multi-Photo Capture allows you to take and attach multiple photos in a single camera session on your mobile device. This feature eliminates the need to open the camera, take a photo, close, and repeat for each additional image. It is available on assets, components, and forms within the Redlist mobile app for both iOS and Android.

Accessing the Multi-Photo Capture Feature

Multi-Photo Capture is available anywhere in the Redlist mobile app where you can add photos. To use this feature:

1. Open the Redlist mobile app on your iOS or Android device

2. Navigate to an asset, component, or form where you want to add photos

3. Tap the option to add a photo (this may appear as a camera icon or "Add Photo" button)

4. Select "Camera" from the options presented

Page Components / Interface Elements

When using Multi-Photo Capture on Android, you will see:

• Cancel button: Located inside the camera interface, allows you to exit without saving photos

• Done button: Located inside the camera interface, saves all captured photos and returns you to the app

• Camera shutter button: Takes a photo (can be pressed multiple times in the same session)

• Photo preview strip (Android only): Displays thumbnails of all photos taken in the current session at the bottom of the camera

• Delete button (Android only): Appears on each thumbnail, allowing you to remove individual photos before saving

• Library option: Alternative to camera, allows you to select existing photos from your device

Note: The iOS interface may appear slightly different but provides the same multi-photo capture functionality.

How to Capture Multiple Photos from an Asset

Capturing multiple photos from the asset list or asset detail screen helps you document equipment from various angles without repetitive navigation.

Steps:

1. Navigate to the Assets section in the Redlist mobile app

2. Select an asset from the list or tap the camera icon next to an asset in the list view

3. Choose "Camera" from the options (Library or Camera)

4. The camera interface opens with Cancel and Done buttons visible

5. Take your first photo by pressing the camera shutter button

6. Continue taking additional photos by pressing the shutter button repeatedly

7. Review the photo thumbnails in the preview strip at the bottom of the camera (for android users)

8. To delete an unwanted photo, tap the delete button on its thumbnail (for android users)

9. When finished, tap "Done" to save all photos and return to the app

10. The first photo you captured will become the asset's profile image

11. All captured photos will be available in the asset's photo viewer

NOTE: When adding a photo from the asset list view (via the camera icon) the first time, you can only add photos, not videos, because the profile image cannot be a video.

2. Navigate to the Components section within that asset

3. Select the component you want to document

4. Tap the option to add photos to the component

5. Select "Camera" from the options

6. Take multiple photos in succession using the camera shutter button

7. Review thumbnails in the preview strip and delete any unwanted images (for android users)

8. Tap "Done" when finished to save all photos to the component

9. All photos will be available in the component's photo viewer

How to Capture Multiple Photos in Forms

Forms with questions that allow you to attach files can now accept multiple photos in a single camera session, making inspections and documentation much faster.

Steps:

1. Open a form in the Redlist mobile app that contains a question that allows you to attach a file

2. Navigate to the question with the + Attach File button

3. Tap the button to attach photos

4. Select "Camera" from the options

5. Take multiple photos by pressing the camera shutter button repeatedly

Understanding Video Limitations

Multi-Photo Capture works only for photos, not videos. Understanding how the camera behaves when switching between photo and video mode is important to avoid losing work.

• Multi-capture only applies to photos: You cannot capture multiple videos in the same session

• Switching to video mode discards photos: If you take photos and then switch the camera to video mode, the photos are discarded and only the video will be saved

• No user warning: The app does not alert you that switching to video mode will discard previously captured photos in that session

• Video restrictions from asset list: When adding the initial media from the asset list view (via the profile image camera icon), only photos are allowed because profile images cannot be videos

Best Practices

1. Capture all angles in one session: When documenting equipment, take photos from multiple angles and distances in a single camera session to save time and avoid reopening the camera multiple times.

2. Review before saving: Use the thumbnail preview strip (for android users) to verify all photos are clear, in focus, and relevant before tapping Done.

3. Delete mistakes immediately: Remove blurry, duplicate, or irrelevant photos directly in the camera interface before saving to keep records organized and reduce storage usage.

4. Complete photos before video: If you need both photos and video for the same asset, complete and save your multi-photo session first, then open the camera again separately to record video.

5. Use for complex equipment: Multi-Photo Capture is especially valuable when documenting complex equipment that requires multiple perspectives or detailed close-ups of different components.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The camera only allows me to take one photo before automatically returning to the app.

Solution: Verify that you are using a recent version of the Redlist mobile app that includes Multi-Photo Capture. This feature may not be available on older app versions. Update your app from the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and try again.

Issue: I took several photos but they all disappeared when I switched to video mode.

Solution: Switching the camera to video mode discards any photos taken in that session. The app does not provide a warning before this happens. To capture both photos and video, complete your multi-photo session first by tapping Done, then reopen the camera and record your video separately.

Issue: I cannot add a video from the asset list view.

Solution: When adding media via the camera icon in the asset list view, you are updating the profile image. Profile images must be photos, not videos. To add a video to an asset, open the asset detail screen and use the media options there, which allow both photos and videos.

Issue: The camera interface looks different on my device.

Solution: The camera interface differs slightly between iOS and Android. On Android, you will see Cancel and Done buttons inside the camera with a thumbnail preview strip at the bottom. iOS uses platform-standard camera controls but still supports multi-photo capture. The core functionality is the same on both platforms.

Summary

Multi-Photo Capture on mobile streamlines photo documentation by allowing you to take multiple photos in a single camera session on assets, components, and forms. By using the thumbnail preview and delete options before tapping Done, you can ensure high-quality, organized visual records while reducing the time spent navigating in and out of the camera.
