Overview
3D Mode lets you walk through a virtual version of your facility with your equipment, components, and tasks pinned to their locations in the Digital Twin. Tap into any asset to view or edit it without leaving the view.
Accessing 3D Mode
3D Mode is available on the Assets page.
How to Enter 3D Mode / Digital Twin View
3D Mode is toggled on and off from the Assets sidebar.
On the Assets page, click the 3D button in the left sidebar header
When 3D Mode is active, the 3D button is highlighted
A Select Model for Pinning dropdown appears — select a model to load the 3D view
Note: If no models appear in the dropdown, your account does not have a 3D model linked to Redlist. Contact your Redlist CSM to get set up.
How to Navigate to a Pinned Item in the 3D View
Clicking any asset, component, or task in the sidebar that has been pinned to a 3D location will auto-navigate to that location in the model. Pinning links an item to a specific spot in the 3D scan — if nothing is pinned yet, see the section below on how to pin items first.
With 3D Mode active and a model loaded, click any asset, component, or task in the sidebar
If the item is pinned, the 3D view automatically moves to that item's location in the model
If the item is pinned to a different model than the one currently loaded, the model switches automatically
How to Pin an Asset, Component, or Task to a Location
Pinning links an item to a specific location in the 3D model so it can be found and navigated to from the sidebar.
Enter 3D Mode and select a model from the Select Model for Pinning dropdown
Click the asset, component, or task you want to pin in the sidebar
Navigate in the 3D view to the location of that item
Click Pin to place the pin at that location
The item is now linked to that spot — clicking it from the sidebar will auto-navigate to its location in the model.
Note: The Pin button is only visible when 3D Mode is active. Exiting 3D Mode hides the pin controls.
How to Switch Between 3D Mode and the Asset Profile
You can toggle 3D Mode off at any time without losing your place. Redlist preserves context — whatever was selected in 3D Mode stays selected in the asset profile, and toggling back into 3D Mode returns you to the same pinned location.
While in 3D Mode, click the 3D button to deactivate it
The view switches to the asset profile for the item that was selected
To return to that item's location in the 3D view, click 3D again — the view auto-navigates back to the pin
Use Cases / Examples
Use Case 1: Reviewing an asset before performing maintenance
A technician opens the Assets page and switches to 3D Mode to find the pump they're about to service. They click the asset, check the associated tasks and components, and confirm everything looks right — all before picking up a single tool.
Use Case 2: After a new compressor is installed, a reliability engineer opens 3D Mode and pins the compressor to its location in the facility model. The whole team can now find it in the 3D view alongside the rest of their equipment.
Use Case 3: Editing asset records in context. A maintenance manager uses 3D Mode to browse their facility virtually, clicking on pinned assets to review their profiles. When they spot missing component data, they update it directly from the side panel without leaving the 3D view.
Best Practices
Pin Assets Before Dispatching Technicians: Pinning equipment to its location lets technicians navigate directly to it in the 3D view before going on-site, reducing confusion in large facilities.
Update Pins When Equipment Moves: If equipment is relocated or replaced, update the pin in 3D Mode so the model stays accurate for your team.
Let the Model Auto-Switch: If your facility uses multiple 3D models, you do not need to manually switch models when selecting an asset. Selecting a pinned item that belongs to a different model will switch it automatically.
