Overview
Every tenant starts with a system-created default work board, originally named "Maintenance," that new work orders fall back to when no other board is assigned. Administrators can now rename this board to whatever fits their organization — for example "Facilities," "Plant 1," or a department name — so the default board's label matches how the team actually talks about it. The board still behaves as the system default in every other respect; only its display name becomes editable.
Accessing Work Boards
From the navigation, click Reliability, then click Work Boards.
How to Rename the Default Board
Steps:
From Work Boards, select the default board (named "Maintenance" unless it has already been renamed) from the board dropdown at the top of the page.
Click the gear icon (Board Settings) next to the Filters button, above the board.
In the Edit Board modal, the Name field — previously grayed out for this board — is now editable. Clear it and enter a new name.
Click Save.
The new name takes effect immediately and appears everywhere the board is referenced.
NOTE: The Board Settings gear icon only appears for users with update permission on Boards.
Understanding What Stays Locked
Renaming is the only change allowed on the default board. Everything else about it continues to work exactly as before:
Cannot be deleted or archived: The archive/delete control remains unavailable for the default board regardless of the acting user's permissions.
Cannot be moved to a different team: The default board stays assigned to its original team.
Board identity doesn't change: Work orders, routes, and task templates that fall through to the default board (because no board was explicitly assigned) continue to do so after the rename — nothing is reassigned, and no existing work orders move.
Where the New Name Appears
Once saved, the new name replaces "Maintenance" in every location that displays the board's name:
The boards dropdown at the top of Work Boards
The Work Boards page header
Work order cards on the board
The Routes table
The board prefill when creating a new route
Multi-Language Tenants
If your tenant uses a non-English culture, renaming the default board also clears the seeded "Maintenance" translation for that board. This means the admin-chosen name is what all users see, in any language — the old translated name will not reappear.
Use Cases
A facilities team renames the default board to "Facilities" so it matches the name they already use in conversation, instead of explaining to new hires why unassigned work orders land on something called "Maintenance."
A multi-site tenant renames the default board to match its primary site (for example "Plant 1") to reduce confusion when comparing boards across locations.
A tenant on a non-English culture renames the board in their own language, and the new name holds for every user on that tenant instead of reverting to the seeded translation.
Best Practices
Pick a name your team will recognize immediately: Since this board is where unassigned work orders land, a clear name helps staff notice work that hasn't been sorted onto a specific board yet.
Coordinate before renaming on a live tenant: Everyone who references the default board by name (in saved filters, conversations, or documentation) will see the new name immediately after you save.
Use standard naming rules: The same validation that applies to boards you create yourself applies here — the name must be non-empty, within the length limit, and unique within the team.
Troubleshooting
Issue: The Name field is still grayed out and won't let me type.
Solution:
Confirm you're editing the actual default board and not a different system board — only the default "Maintenance" board's name is unlocked.
Confirm your user role has update permission on Boards; without it, the Board Settings gear icon won't appear at all, and the modal can't be reached.
Issue: I renamed the board, but the old name still shows for other users.
Solution:
Have the affected users refresh the page — the rename applies immediately on the backend, but an already-loaded page won't pick it up until it reloads.
If the old name is only reappearing for users on a different language than the one you renamed from, confirm the rename was saved successfully — a completed rename clears the translation for every culture, not just the one used to save it.
Summary
The default "Maintenance" board's name is no longer fixed — administrators with board update permission can rename it from the same Edit Board modal used for any other board. The rename applies everywhere the board's name is shown, holds across languages, and doesn't affect the board's protected status: it still can't be deleted, archived, or moved to another team.
