Overview
The Compliance Window field lets planners set how many days before a fixed work order's due date it should actually open for work — instead of only knowing when it's due. This is available on fixed work order templates, on PM program templates that generate them, and is visualized on the work order calendar, so planners can see the true schedulable window for a piece of equipment, not just its due date.
Accessing Work Order Templates
From the navigation, click Maintenance, then click PM Programs.
Click Work Order Templates, then select a work order template.
How to Set a Compliance Window on a Work Order Template
Steps:
From the work order template's General tab, find the Compliance Window field to the right of Next Due Date.
Enter a whole number of days (0 or greater).
Click Save.
NOTE: This field only appears when Work Order Template Type is set to Fixed — it doesn't apply to Dynamic or Manual templates. Leaving it blank (or 0) means no compliance window, and the work order's planned start date stays empty, matching prior behavior.
How to Set a Compliance Window on a PM Program
Steps:
From the navigation, click Maintenance, then click PM Programs.
Click Setup, then select a program's work order template card.
In the Details tab, find the Compliance Window field below Est. Duration.
Click Save Changes.
NOTE: Setting the compliance window on the program carries it down to every work order template the program creates or updates.
Understanding the Planned Start Date
Once a compliance window is set, each work order generated from that template gets a Planned Start Date equal to its due date minus the compliance window. For example, a compliance window of 4 on a work order due Friday opens the work order the Monday before.
The planned start date is never later than the due date.
Changing the compliance window updates the planned start date on that template's open work orders.
Clearing the compliance window clears the planned start date on open work orders.
Completed, closed, or cancelled work orders are not affected.
Viewing the Compliance Window on the Calendar
Steps:
From a work order template, click the Work Orders subtab, then click Calendar.
Locate a work order with a planned start date — it renders as a bar spanning from Open to Due, instead of a single day.
Check the calendar legend for the Compliance window (before due date) entry to identify these bars.
NOTE: Work order templates with no compliance window (or set to Dynamic/Manual) render exactly as they did before this update — a single due-date marker.
Use Cases
A planner managing a fixed route with a tight turnaround sets a compliance window so the work order opens several days early, giving the technician room to schedule it within an acceptable range instead of only on the exact due date.
A PM program administrator standardizing many similar templates sets the compliance window once on the program, so every work order template the program touches inherits the same window without manual per-template setup.
A scheduler reviewing the work orders calendar sees at a glance which work orders are already open for work versus which are only approaching their due date, without opening each one individually.
Best Practices
Set the compliance window on the program when possible: It's easier to maintain one setting on a PM program than repeating it across many individual work order templates.
Leave it blank when a fixed due date is all that's needed: Not every template needs an open window — use it only where early scheduling flexibility matters.
Review the calendar after changing a compliance window: Confirm the bar span looks right before relying on it for scheduling decisions.
Troubleshooting
Issue: A work order's planned start date didn't update after changing the compliance window.
Solution:
Confirm the work order is still open — completed, closed, or cancelled work orders are not recalculated.
Re-open the work order template and confirm the compliance window value saved correctly.
Issue: The Compliance Window field isn't showing on a work order template.
Solution:
Check the Work Order Template Type — this field only appears for Fixed templates.
