Overview
While working on a form on mobile, the Save-related buttons use one consistent set of labels: Save, Save and Close, and Submit while you're actively filling out a form, and Save Changes, Discard Changes, and Delete Form when you close a draft with unsaved changes.
Accessing These Buttons
Open or continue working on a form on mobile — a regular form or a collaborative form.
Saving While You Work on a Form
Tap Save to open the save menu.
Choose Save to save your progress and keep working, or Save and Close to save and exit the form.
On a collaborative form, this same menu also includes a Submit shortcut.
Submit is also available as its own button outside this menu at any time, letting you submit the form directly without saving first.
NOTE: This save menu's labels — Save, Save and Close, and Submit — apply on iOS. Android's save flow for forms was not verified for this article.
Closing a Draft With Unsaved Changes
Tap Done or Cancel, or otherwise navigate away, while a draft has unsaved changes.
Choose Save Changes to keep your changes, or Discard Changes to drop them.
If you have permission to delete this form, Delete Form is also available in this same menu.
NOTE: Delete Form only appears if you have delete permission on the form's template. If you don't see it, you don't have that permission for this form.
Use Cases / Examples
Use Case 1: Saving progress mid-shift
A technician partway through a long form taps Save and chooses Save to keep their progress without leaving the form, planning to finish it later.
Use Case 2: Finishing up and moving on
A user completes their edits and taps Save, then Save and Close, to save the form and return to their previous screen in one step.
Use Case 3: Submitting directly
A user who's confident the form is complete taps Submit directly, without going through the Save menu first.
Use Case 4: Backing out of a draft
A user opens a draft, decides not to make the change they intended, and taps Cancel. From the resulting menu, they choose Discard Changes to leave the draft exactly as it was.
Best Practices
Use Save and Close instead of two separate taps. If you're done working for now, Save and Close covers both actions at once.
Use Submit only when you're finished. Unlike Save, Submit finalizes the form — use Save or Save and Close if you might come back to make more changes.
Check for Delete Form before assuming you can't remove a draft. It only shows up when you have delete permission on that form's template.
Troubleshooting
Issue: I don't see a Delete Form option when closing a draft
Solution:
Delete Form only appears if you have delete permission on the form's template.
Ask an administrator to grant delete permission on that template if you need to remove drafts of it.
Issue: I'm not sure whether Save or Submit is the right button
Solution:
Use Save or Save and Close to keep your progress without finalizing the form — you can still come back and edit it.
Use Submit only when the form is complete; submitting finalizes it.
Summary
Mobile forms use Save, Save and Close, and Submit for saving and submitting while you work, and Save Changes, Discard Changes, and Delete Form (when you have delete permission) when closing a draft with unsaved changes. The Save-menu labels are confirmed on iOS; Android's save flow wasn't independently verified for this article.
