Overview
Automatic purchasing can be turned off for individual locations, not just tenant-wide. When it's off for a location, the nightly reorder process skips that location entirely — no automatic purchase orders or purchase requests are created for its parts, and Redlist stops recalculating that location's Minimum Qty and Consumption Rate / Day values, so any values you set manually stay put.
Accessing Automatic Purchasing Settings
From the navigation, click Resources, then click Inventory.
Click the Locations tab.
Click the location you want to configure to open it, or use its Edit action to open the Edit Location modal directly.
How to Turn Automatic Purchasing Off for a Location
Steps:
Open the location's Edit Location modal (or Create Location if you're setting this on a new location).
Find the Automatic purchasing checkbox.
Uncheck it to turn automatic purchasing off for this location, or leave it checked to keep the existing automated behavior.
Click the Next button until the tab navigates to Sublocations, then click Save.
If you're not making any other changes, you can instead click the Sublocations tab directly, then click Save.
NOTE: Automatic purchasing is checked (on) by default for every location, including all existing locations — nothing changes until you explicitly turn it off.
What Turning It Off Does
With Automatic purchasing off for a location:
The nightly reorder job no longer creates draft purchase orders or purchase requests for that location's parts.
The nightly job also stops recalculating Minimum Qty and Consumption Rate / Day for that location's parts — so any values already set stay exactly as they are.
Minimum Qty and Consumption Rate / Day become manually editable in the part's stockroom settings (they're normally locked and auto-calculated). A tooltip on those fields explains that they're editable because automatic purchase orders and requests aren't being created for that location.
Inventory quantity itself is not affected — this setting only controls purchasing automation, not stock counts.
Checking a Location's Setting
On a location's detail page, the General tab shows an Automatic Purchasing field reading On or Off, so you can check the current setting without opening the Edit Location modal.
Use Cases / Examples
Use Case 1: A location tracked outside Redlist
A multi-region company tracks inventory for one region's warehouse in a separate system. They turn off Automatic purchasing for that location so Redlist stops generating purchase orders for parts it doesn't actually manage, while every other location keeps the automated reorder flow.
Use Case 2: Manually tuning reorder settings for one high-variability location
A location with unusually inconsistent usage patterns keeps triggering reorder settings that don't match reality. An inventory manager turns off Automatic purchasing for just that location, then manually sets Minimum Qty and Consumption Rate / Day to values based on their own judgment, without those values getting overwritten every night.
Best Practices
Turn this off per-location, not tenant-wide, unless you mean to. This setting only affects the one location you edit — other locations keep whatever behavior they already had.
Set Minimum Qty and Consumption Rate / Day manually once you turn this off. Since the nightly job stops updating them, they'll stay at whatever value they were left at until you change them yourself.
Turn it back on to resume automation. If a location's needs change, re-checking Automatic purchasing on the location resumes both purchase order/request generation and automatic recalculation on the next nightly run.
Troubleshooting
Issue: Minimum Qty or Consumption Rate / Day won't let me edit it
Solution:
Check the location's Automatic Purchasing setting on its General tab — if it's On, those fields are auto-calculated and locked for that location.
Turn Automatic purchasing off for the location if you need to set these values manually.
Issue: No purchase orders are being generated for a location I expect them for
Solution:
Check the location's Automatic Purchasing setting — if it's Off, that's expected; the nightly job skips that location entirely.
Turn Automatic purchasing back on for the location to resume automatic purchase order and purchase request creation.
Issue: I turned this off but inventory quantities still update
Solution:
This is expected — Automatic purchasing only controls purchase order/request generation and reorder-setting recalculation. Inventory quantity tracking (ledgers) works independently and isn't affected by this setting.
Summary
