Collapsible Sidebar — Lube Management Experience (Web) - User Guide

How to collapse and expand the Lube Management navigation sidebar, navigate using flyout menus when collapsed, and understand the new navigation icons.

Written by Trevor Shaffer

Overview

The Lube Management navigation sidebar can be collapsed to give you more horizontal screen space. When expanded, the sidebar shows an icon and text label for every navigation item. When collapsed, it shows only icons. All navigation items — including sub-pages — have their own icons, so you can identify them at a glance in either state.

Your collapsed or expanded preference is saved automatically in your browser and persists across sessions and page refreshes.

Accessing the Collapsible Sidebar

The navigation sidebar is always visible on the left side of every page in the Lube Management layout. No navigation is required to access it — the toggle button to collapse or expand the sidebar is located at the top of the sidebar itself.

How to Collapse or Expand the Sidebar

The toggle button is at the top of the left navigation sidebar. It shows a double-chevron arrow — pointing left («) when expanded, pointing right (») when collapsed.

  1. Click the « toggle button at the top of the sidebar to collapse it.

  2. Click the » toggle button again to expand it.

Your preference is saved automatically for that browser.

Navigating While the Sidebar Is Collapsed

All navigation items remain accessible when the sidebar is collapsed.

Top-level standalone items (Comms Hub, Certifications) — click the icon to navigate directly to that page. Hovering over the icon shows a tooltip with the page name.

Navigation groups (items with sub-pages, such as Lubrication Routes, Asset Management, Reports, Inventory Management, Forms, and Settings) — hover over or click the group icon to open a flyout popup menu to the right of the sidebar. The flyout displays the group name and all available sub-pages. Click a sub-page from the flyout to navigate to it. The flyout closes when you move your mouse away, click outside it, or press Escape.

Active sub-page context — when you are already on a sub-page within a group, the sidebar shows only the icon for your current sub-page beneath the group icon. For example, if you are on the Asset Hierarchy page, only the Asset Management group icon and the Asset Hierarchy icon are visible — Assets and Asset Map are hidden. Click the group icon to open the flyout and navigate to a different sub-page.

Understanding the New Navigation Icons

All navigation items, including sub-pages, now have icons. These icons appear in both expanded and collapsed states. In expanded mode, icons appear alongside the text labels and the navigation behaves exactly as before — nothing about the expanded experience has changed.

Full List of Navigation Sections

The LM navigation sidebar contains the following sections, all accessible in both expanded and collapsed states:

Main navigation:

  • Lubrication Routes (Routes, Route Setup & Templates, Scheduling)

  • Asset Management (Assets, Asset Hierarchy, Asset Map)

  • Comms Hub

  • Reports (Reports, ROI Calculators)

  • Inventory Management (Inventory, Purchasing)

  • Forms (Submit, View Entries, Form Templates)

  • Certifications (only shown if enabled for your organization)

Settings:

  • Lubrication Routes, Asset Management, Inventory Management, Purchasing, Import, Integrations, User Roles & Permissions, Company, Custom Fields, Mobile Settings

Use Cases

Limited screen space — collapsing the sidebar is useful on smaller monitors or when working with multiple panels open alongside Redlist, giving you more horizontal room for the main content area.

Experienced users — once you are familiar with the navigation icons, a collapsed sidebar lets you move quickly between pages without the sidebar taking up space.

Focused workflows — during route completion or work order reviews, collapsing the sidebar reduces visual distraction and keeps focus on the task at hand.

Best Practices

  1. Learn the icons before collapsing: Spend a session or two in expanded mode to get familiar with each icon before switching to collapsed mode full-time.

  2. Hover or click group icons to open flyouts: Hovering over a navigation group icon opens the flyout — you do not have to click. Moving your mouse directly from the icon to the flyout keeps it open.

  3. Use tooltips to identify icons: When collapsed, hovering over top-level standalone items (Comms Hub, Certifications) shows a tooltip with the page name.

  4. Expand when onboarding new users: Keep the sidebar expanded when showing new team members around Redlist so they can see the full navigation labels.

Troubleshooting

Issue: I can't find a sub-page when the sidebar is collapsed.

Solution:

  1. Hover over or click the navigation group icon for the section you need.

  2. A flyout menu appears to the right of the sidebar listing all available sub-pages.

  3. Click the sub-page you need from the flyout.

Issue: I only see one sub-page icon under a group when the sidebar is collapsed, but I know there are more.

Solution:

  1. This is expected behavior — the sidebar shows only the icon for the sub-page you are currently on.

  2. Hover over or click the group icon to open the flyout menu, which lists all sub-pages for that section.

  3. Alternatively, expand the sidebar to see the full navigation.

Issue: The sidebar is collapsed when I log in and I didn't set it that way.

Solution:

  1. Your collapsed or expanded preference is saved per browser using local storage. If you are on a different browser or device than usual, it may default to expanded.

  2. Click the toggle button at the top of the sidebar to expand it. The preference will be saved for that browser going forward.

Summary

The collapsible sidebar in the Lube Management layout lets you reclaim screen space without losing access to any navigation. Toggle it open or closed at any time using the button at the top of the sidebar. Your preference is saved automatically across sessions. When collapsed, hover over or click navigation group icons to open flyout menus, and hover over top-level standalone items to see tooltips.
