Comms Hub Notifications: Open and Highlight the Post (Web) - User Guide

Written by Trevor Shaffer

Overview

The notification panel lists replies and mentions from the Communication Hub. Clicking a reply or mention notification opens the post it's about, scrolls to the message, and briefly highlights it. You can also mark notifications as read without opening them.

Accessing Communication Hub Notifications

  1. Click the notification bell icon at the top of the page. The Notification panel opens.

  2. Click All to see every notification, or Unread to see only the ones you haven't read. Notifications from the last 24 hours are listed under New, and older ones under Earlier.

How to Open the Message a Notification Is About

  1. Click the notification bell icon.

  2. Click a reply or mention notification.

  3. The Communication Hub opens on the post, filtered to the asset, work order, or task it was shared on (or to you, for other posts).

  4. The page scrolls to the message and highlights it for about 3 seconds. For a reply or a mention in a reply, the reply is highlighted. For a mention in a post, the post is highlighted.

NOTE: The notification is marked as read when you click it. If the post is older, it's shown at the top of the feed until you change the filter.

How to Mark Notifications as Read

  1. Click the notification bell icon.

  2. To mark one notification as read without opening it, click the eye icon in its lower-right corner.

  3. To mark every unread notification as read, click Mark all as Read at the top of the panel.

NOTE: Mark all as Read only appears when you have at least one unread notification.

Understanding Who Receives Notifications

  • Reply notifications go to everyone who follows the post. You automatically follow posts you create and posts you're mentioned in. To follow other posts, use Follow Post in the post's Actions menu.

  • Mention notifications go to each person tagged with @ in a post or reply.

  • You don't get notifications for your own replies or for replies Redlist adds automatically, such as "Work order #1042 was created from this post."

  • If a reply mentions you on a post you follow, you get only the mention notification.

Use Cases

  • A technician is mentioned in a busy work order conversation. Clicking the notification opens that work order's conversation and highlights the reply that mentions them.

  • A manager returns from time off to dozens of unread notifications and clears them all with Mark all as Read.

Best Practices

  1. Click the Notification Instead of Searching: It opens the right post with the right filter and highlights the message.

  2. Use Unread to Catch Up: Click Unread to see only the notifications you haven't read yet.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Clicking a notification shows "This content is no longer available."

Solution:

  1. The post or reply was deleted, or you no longer have access to it. If the post still exists, the Communication Hub opens on it.

  2. If you believe you should have access, contact your account administrator.

Issue: The post opened, but I didn't see a highlight.

Solution:

  1. The highlight fades after about 3 seconds. Look for the message in the middle of the page.

Issue: I'm not getting reply notifications for a post.

Solution:

  1. Open the post's Actions menu. If it shows Follow Post, you don't follow the post yet. Click Follow Post.

  2. Replies you post yourself and replies Redlist adds automatically don't send reply notifications.

Summary

Reply and mention notifications open the Communication Hub on the post they're about and highlight the message for about 3 seconds. Use the eye icon or Mark all as Read to mark notifications as read without opening them.
