Overview
Technicians can now scan an NFC tag or QR code directly in the mobile app to see exactly what data it contains, without needing a separate third-party scanner app. This is useful for verifying that a tag or code is programmed correctly, or troubleshooting when a scan isn't behaving as expected.
Accessing NFC and QR Data Tools
Tap the Settings tab in the bottom navigation bar.
Tap Advanced Settings.
How to Read NFC Tag Data
Steps:
From Advanced Settings, tap NFC Data.
Hold your device near the NFC tag to scan it.
Review the tag's serial number and payload data shown on screen.
How to Read QR Code Data
Steps:
From Advanced Settings, tap QR.
Point your camera at the QR code to scan it.
Review the URL contained in the code, shown on screen.
Use Cases
A technician troubleshooting a scan that isn't linking to the right asset uses NFC Data to confirm exactly what's encoded on the physical tag, rather than guessing based on app behavior.
An admin verifying a new batch of printed QR codes scans a sample with the QR tool to confirm the encoded URL is correct before deploying the batch to the field.
Best Practices
Use this tool for verification, not daily scanning: It's meant to inspect raw tag/code contents, not to replace the normal asset-linking scan flow.
Check the serial number first: For NFC tags, the serial number is often the fastest way to confirm you're looking at the tag you think you are.
Troubleshooting
Issue: Scanning an NFC tag shows no data.
Solution:
Make sure your device's NFC is enabled and the tag is held close enough to the reader.
Try again — some tags require a steadier, closer hold than a typical asset scan.
Issue: The QR tool shows an unexpected URL.
Solution:
Confirm you scanned the intended code and not a different one nearby.
Reprint or regenerate the code if the encoded URL is incorrect.
